Innovative Programming Award
Our Sisterhood won an award for Innovative programming at the WRJ Southwest Biennial – The Power of Connection – Convention New Orleans, LA – November 1st-4th, 2018. “Temple Shalom Sisterhood, Dallas TX, In Recognition of Innovative Programming, 2016-2018”. Thanks to all of our Sisters who made this happen!
WRJ Roll of Honor
We achieved the Roll of Honor from WRJ for our contributions to the YES Fund in the year 2016-2017. The YES fund is the WRJ Youth, Education, and Special Projects program. It provides scholarships for rabbinical and cantorial students, funding for URJ camps, founded the North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY), and advances WRJ’s mission of strengthening Reform Judaism in North America, in Israel, and around the world. Temple Shalom’s Sisterhood Social Action Committee, Shalom Bayit, has adopted Family Violence Prevention as its focus. Until recently family violence was rarely talked about. It has long been considered a private, family issue. Many people thought – and perhaps still think – that domestic violence, while horrible, doesn’t affect them personally. The reality is that domestic violence affects 1 in 3 women throughout their lifetime. 1 in 3! And it doesn’t stop there. For these 1 in 3 women, it also affects their children, their families, their workplaces, their neighborhoods and their community. This is a major social issue that is impacting all of us. And ending family violence will require all of us too. Please join the Social Action Committee as we pursue ways to make a difference in our community, our state, and our country. If you’d like to join us, please contact Staci Mendelsohn at firstname.lastname@example.org for ideas as to how you can get involved.
We Care volunteers bring cheer to our sisters who are ill. They deliver candy/flowers, run errands and so forth. These are generally short term situations. If you would like to volunteer please contact Ann Weintraub, email@example.com, 214-802-4726 or Carol Preite, 972-997-8192, firstname.lastname@example.org.
