March of the Living Scholarship Offered By Temple Shalom Brotherhood

$1,000 Jerome Kasten Memorial Need-Based Youth Scholarship

To be used toward attending March of the Living.

Temple Shalom Brotherhood is proud to present the Jerome Kasten Memorial Scholarship.  This Scholarship is to be used by a teenager to help offset a portion the cost of attending the annual March of the Living.  The Scholarship is graciously funded by Deanna Kasten in memory of her husband, both longtime active members of Temple Shalom.

March of the Living is a two week international, educational program bringing Jewish teens and adults from all over the world to Poland on Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Memorial Day) to march from Auschwitz to Birkenau, the largest concentration camp complex built during World War II. Following the March, the group travels to Israel to observe Yom HaZikaron (Israel Memorial Day) and Yom Ha’Atzmaut (Israel Independence Day).

Since its inception in 1988, more than 260,000 alumni from 52 countries have marched down the same three kilometer path leading from Auschwitz to Birkenau on Holocaust Remembrance Day – Yom HaShoah – as a tribute to all victims of the Holocaust.

The price of the trip is approximately $6200 (changes each year), plus domestic airfare to our departure city, and travel insurance is required to be purchased prior to the trip.

There is usually a group of Dallas teens participating in the trip, coordinated by the Laura T. Fine March of the Living Dallas.
