Bachman Lake Update
Mold, leaky roofs, holes in walls, sewage on the sidewal
Just a few things approximately 60 leaders found while inspecting Bachman Lake area apartments on Oct. 24th. Leaders are currently doing research meetings and drafting a community agenda to build a safer/healthier Bachman Lake area. Bachman DAI leaders will host an action with public officials on Tuesday Nov. 17th at 7pm at San Juan Diego Catholic Church, 10919 Royal Haven Dr.
Cedar Crest Church of Christ Neighborhood Walk
On September 12th, one hundred and thirty people from six congregations and two schools gathered at Cedar Crest Church of Christ, and participated in a community walk in an effort to learn more about the issues affecting the community. Volunteers surveyed over 150 households, discovering issues of stray dogs, slow police response times, and substandard housing. At a community meeting the following week, one pastor shared how he was attacked by a stray dog while he was out for a morning walk. Another person explained how she waited hours for the police to respond to a disturbance call in her neighborhood.
These stories have propelled the leaders into action. On Thursday, November 19th at 7pm at Cedar Crest Church of Christ (2134 Cedar Crest Blvd., Dallas, TX 75203), leaders from these congregations will come together to ask for commitments from public officials and from themselves to address these issues.
DAI Member Institutions Get Organized Around Inequality In Dallas
Did you know Dallas was just named #1 when it comes to neighborhood inequality? DAI leaders want to change that ranking and have begun work around a local neighborhood strategy to both engage their neighborhoods and build towards a larger city strategy. Over the next several months, member institutions will host a “Pressures on Family Listening Campaign.” Let’s create the community we wish to see.
